Located in the beachfront suburb and perhaps, the most creative neighbourhood in Barcelona is Artidi’s. Discreetly standing in a street just behind and parallel to Poble Nou’s amazing Rambla. This leading retail orientated school was one of the first to have understood the importance of what staying adapted to current times means. Its totally new and refurbished space breathes Window Dressing, Visual Merchandising and Image. All of which are accentuated in a seamlessly way in this top-botch workshops – ideally helping students mock-up their creativity whilst bearing in mind the necessity of trade and retail KPI’s – wonderfully connoting that this school is not just about infusing ideas!
The school’s ethos is rolled out under the following four major leitmotifs: Creativity, Motivation, Effort and Enthusiasm and integrated into the two main courses that are taught in Ártidi. These are:-
1. Window Dressing and Visual Merchandising
Through a practical training method, students are taught to develop their ability to transform design ideas into effective visual presentations that are in line with retail necessities and thus, supporting retail strategies at hand. Subjects range from in-store merchandising, to coordination of store drops, to window dressing, designing stands and even creating stunning commercial interiors. This school really helps its students develop and/or improve simultaneously, both their creative “tools” and manual skills.
The course is further enhanced by real projects with real clients. This hands-on approach creates the ideal attrezzo for Artidi’s alumni to expand their portfolio, network with industry professionals and to start building their careers from the moment they walk in the door.
2. Image Consulting and Personal Shopper
Through one-on-one role play consultations, personalised shopping excursions and corporate internships, students get to work with real clients, in order to create and refine their subject’s personal and professional image.
They further bring and combine existing wardrobe ideas with new acquisitions, and learn how to reinterpret these to the extent that they then, can adapt the latest trends – because each client is a different e-brand in the making.
Students are also taught to present the results in a professional manner, which they then have to pitch to their peers, teachers, clients and other industry professionals within the jury.
In light of this rigour, we can say that Artidi’s puts to practice the good old saying: “First impressions are often the best”. And in a flawless manner at that! Artidi’s expertise is focused in bringing out the best in students. They take their underlying “career advisory” role seriously and this makes the difference. As serious students will actually achieve their goals.
I truly believe that: “La venta entra por la vista”. Figuratively speaking, this simply means that what you see, should make you hungry. When adapted to retail, this implies that what you expose should make other want to buy it. In trade & retail, everything just goes so fast and yet, it should be above all about CQI – continuous quality improvement, and this school is able to craft professionals which are then capable of continually improving themselves. Obviously to the benefit of their future employers and clients but fore mostly, to the benefit of passers-by.
So, are you going to be one of them? Do you need one of them?
At least now you know that this can be your school.
